The Redwoods Audience Cohort

Original Work Deserves an Honest Audience

We are bringing together a wide community of curious people who want to encounter original work, think seriously about it, and help worthy ideas find a path forward.

No industry access, academic credential, professional title, or particular age makes one response more legitimate than another. What matters is attention, candour, and the ability to explain what the work genuinely made you feel and think.

Original thought. Creative freedom. For the audience, by the audience.

A Community Around the Work

A Wider Room for Original Ideas

The Audience Cohort is a standing community of 1,000 to 2,000 people. For each eligible work, Redwoods forms a 100-person Audience Panel broad enough to reveal genuine enthusiasm, hesitation, disagreement, and surprise.

This is not a ranking system or a permanent circle of tastemakers. It is our shared attempt to build a meritocratic environment where new work receives an informed hearing before privilege, familiarity, or convention decides what deserves attention.

How It Works

From Interest to Audience Opinion

The process is designed to preserve independence while giving every accepted assignment serious, human attention.

01

Tell Us Why

The application asks for 300–500 words about your interests, your passion for stories or ideas, and why taking part matters to you. There is no résumé test.

02

Receive an Invitation

Panel invitations reflect your interests and content boundaries. You remain free to accept only the work you have the time and readiness to consider properly.

03

Enter Securely

After accepting and clearing any conflict, you receive secure, non-downloadable access to the work for the evaluation period.

04

Develop Your Response

An Audience Response Journal helps you capture moments, attachments, questions, and changes of mind as the work unfolds—not merely score it after the fact.

05

Make the Final Call

You conclude with Strong Yes, Yes, No, or Strong No and explain what most impressed you, what did not, and why the work should or should not move forward.

Strong support matters, but so can real polarization: distinctive work does not have to please everyone to deserve a future. The Audience Panel informs Redwoods’ decision; it does not replace Redwoods’ responsibility for the final path forward.

The Audience Response Journal

More Than a Score

A response to creative work is psychological before it is demographic. We want to understand what people are actually responding to—and why.

The journal makes room for thought to develop while the experience is still alive.

  • Mark the moments that moved, surprised, confused, or lost you.
  • Notice when attachment to a character, idea, or world begins to form.
  • Record where momentum deepens, weakens, or changes direction.
  • Consider shared lenses such as originality, character or idea development, texture, coherence, and execution.
  • Reflect at natural breaks, after completion, and again after some distance.
  • Explain what endured in memory—and what you wanted more or less of.

This creates feedback a creator can learn from and audience intelligence Redwoods can use without forcing original work into familiar market boxes.

A Shared Return

Broad Access to Original Work

The value of joining is not a badge, a title, or a place in a hierarchy. It is broad discovery and meaningful involvement in work before it reaches the wider world.

During Your Active Year

Broad Cohort Access

Audience members receive broad access to original work made available through the cohort. There is no single fixed cap: the volume and pace of access develop with each member’s established participation, reliability, thoughtful engagement, and account integrity.

After Your Active Year

Annual Past-Cohort Access

Members who complete their year in good standing may continue through an annual paid subscription reserved for the past cohort, with access to eligible original work made available through that program.

Access is personal, verified, and view-only. It is never based on whether a member votes positively or negatively. Work cannot be downloaded, copied, captured, distributed, shared, adapted, or used outside the authorized Redwoods environment.

A Protected Place for Younger Audiences

Children’s Work, Children’s Lane

Younger audience members can bring an irreplaceable point of view to work created for them. Their participation is limited exclusively to the Children’s Education & Entertainment lane.

They never receive access to adult sections or adult work. The platform, invitations, and content boundaries will keep that separation clear from the beginning.

The Trust We Share

Protect the Work. Keep Your Word.

A community like this works because people protect one another’s work and follow through when they say yes.

01

Verify Your Identity

Membership and access belong to one verified person. Accounts cannot be anonymous, transferred, or shared.

02

Disclose Affiliations

Current creative, publishing, production, representation, acquisition, or other relevant industry affiliations must be disclosed accurately and kept current.

03

Sign Before Access

Every member signs the Audience Cohort Confidentiality and Non-Use Agreement before original work becomes available.

04

Protect the Work

Do not copy, capture, download, share, adapt, exploit, discuss publicly, or use the work outside the cohort.

05

Accept Thoughtfully

Take an assignment only when you can give it the attention and complete response it deserves.

06

Finish What You Accept

A first missed accepted-assignment deadline is recorded. A second ends active cohort membership immediately.

Access activity is recorded. A detected attempt to copy, download, capture, record, or transfer protected work results in immediate account suspension pending investigation. A confirmed breach ends membership and access and may result in legal action under the member’s signed agreement.

What Comes Next

Read the Rules. Then Tell Us Why You Want to Join.

The Audience Cohort Rules set out verified participation, affiliation disclosure, access, confidentiality and non-use, security monitoring, children’s safeguards, deadlines, and the Audience Response Journal. Applications will open after the participation agreement and application are ready.

No gatekeeping credentials. No prestige ladder. Just thoughtful people giving original work a serious hearing.
